Why Organic Foods

Page history last edited by knave2 1 yr ago

For organic consumers, their choice represents a conscious decision for a better lifestyle. Consumers frequent common emotive ideas and language describe organic foods as: better for the world's environment, of better quality, of better health, produces better energy for the body, and for greater longevity. Consumers who observe eating organic foods discuss the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers with injestion of these substances. A recent addition is the dialogue about Genetic Food Modification. Dialoge from organic consumers both past and present say injestion of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers may cause illness and death. "The use of pesticides is directly responsible for illness and death in the developing countries."[Prairie -21] Pesticide information used in intensive farming methods of the agricultural "Green Revolution" and the associated environmental practices created the shift of awareness needed for encouraging the start of organic movement.

This short news clip in figure 7 is about the culture that surrounds organic foods and the people who consume the product. Organic can mean a way of life for people who see the other farming methods as detrimental for the Earth. Interviews in the news clip below highlight many of the reasons why people use organice instead of others.

Why Organic Food?

(Figure 7)

Organic foods cut the cost of pollution from chemical pesticides and other pollutants. Farmers control the different number of insects in their crop by employing predator insects. Some insects and lifeforms can help plants grow faster and more abundant by devouring weeds among the crops. A healthy crop is grown with the ever present environment instead of around the life that exists. Microbes in soil the plant uses for nutrients also impact the development of the organic produce. Animals also can be raised as organic with feed varieties under traditional care without synthetic chemical aids or hormones.
